Effort

I slide it in slowly
I center myself
Then follow it up
With a quick, gentle tap

I slowly move back
To look at the back
A few gentle slaps
It looks fairly right

I pound and I pound
And some more I pound
I take my sweet time
I must hit it right

It’s getting quite hot
My brow sweat I dry
And then I resume
To screw in the back

I slide my hand slowly
The surface feels smooth
No bumps and no bruises
Across, through and through

It takes me a while
To finish at last
A groan of great pleasure
My bookshelf assembled
